Greenland - East View Geospatial

Greenland was given home rule in 1979 and acquired the status of a district nation within the Kingdom of Denmark. Although the Danish government decided to map Greenland as early as 1878, the first genuine topographic surveys were conducted by the Lauge Koch expeditions to the north of Greenland from 1917 to 1923, in 18 sheets at 1:300,000 scale.Get price

A computationally efficient model for the Greenland ice sheet

We present a one-dimensional model of the Greenland Ice Sheet (GIS) for use in analysis of future sea level rise. Simulations using complex three-dimensional models suggest that the GIS may respond in a nonlinear manner to anthropogenic climate forcing and cause potentially nontrivial sea level rise. These GIS projections are, however, deeply uncertain. Analyzing these uncertainties isGet price

Hydrologic Sub-basins of Greenland, Version 1. The Hydrologic Sub-basins of Greenland data set contains Geographic Information System (GIS) polygon shapefiles that include 293 hydrologic sub-basins of the Greenland Ice Sheet, as created by Lewis and Smith (2009). Five km Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) of ice-surface and bedrock topography (Bamber et al. 2001) were used to estimate the hydraulic potentiometric surface for Greenland, which accounts for the effects of ice overburden pressureGet price

Greenland Ice Sheet Today | Surface Melt Data presented by NSIDC

Overview of ConditionsConditions in ContextAcknowledgementsSurface melting on the Greenland ice sheet ramped down at a near-normal pace in the weeks following the major melt event of early August (Figure 1). Only a few minor late-season melt events occurred in September and October. Overall, melting on the Greenland ice sheet for 2019 was the seventh-highest since 1978, behind 2012, 2010, 2016, 2002, 2007, and 2011 (Figure 2). Since 2000, the ice sheet has experienced a general increase in melting, with melt-day area for 2019 totaling 28.3 million square kilometers (10.9 million square miles) for the season. Melting was observed over nearly 90 percent of the island on at least one day, reaching the Summit Station and much of the high-altitude areas. It was particularly intense along the northern edge of the ice sheet, where compared to the 1981 to 2010 average, melting occurred for an additional 35 days. The number of days with melting was slightly above average along the western flank of the ice sheet as well, with about 15 to 20 more days...Get price
